Aiko Nakamura

Aiko Nakamura Biography

She started playing tennis when she was a child and in 1999 she became a professional tennis player. Since then, she has won two ITF single titles and two ITF doubles titles. Until now (2007) she has earned approximately 500.000 dollars. She and Ai Sugiyama, another Japanese player, are the best ranked Japanese women players in Top 100.

On January 30, 2006 she was placed on the fifty-fourth position in Top 100 and this was the highest position she has ever occupied. Monica Seles was her role model and she has tried to be as her. The two tennis players have similar ways of playing: they
both have double-handed forehand and backhand and serve right-handed.
In 2006 she had one of her greatest successes after reaching the final of the Japan Open in Tokyo. Her opponent in that final was Marion Bartoli of France and unfortunately Aiko lost with the score 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. In 2005 and 2006 she has played into the second round at the US Open, the first round only at the French Open and in 2005 and 2007 had the same results at Wimbledon. Until now her best performance at a Grand Slam tournament happened in 2006 at the Australian Open where reached the third round.
